NEW Online Dispatch System Launched
for Canadian UBC Members Wishing to Travel for Work in Canada
Ontario UBC members interested in working in other parts of Canada now have a new service that will help them locate and secure employment. This new online system has been created by the UBC to facilitate the quick movement of Canadian members throughout Canada in times of high regional labour demands.
In order to be placed on the list, you must be on your Local’s out-of-work list, have your dues paid up-to-date and be in good standing. You can access the Canadian Traveler Referral Program by following the steps below.
Go to www.carpenters.org and click on the Members tab on the top right hand corner of the screen.
When you click on the Members tab, click on the green box that states ‘First Time? Register Here’
You will be prompted to enter your name, UBC ID number and the last four digits of your Social Insurance Number.
Click on the submit tab and you will be sent via email a temporary password to enter the system.
*Note: Some temporary passwords have been going to Junk/Spam folders. Check these folders on your email account if you do not receive your temporary password in your regular email.
Once you have received your password, you can log into the system via www.carpenters.org and enter your user name and password to start the application process. When you successfully log on, click the Icon on your member homepage to work across Canada.
You will be directed to fill in required information including:
Member Information: Home address, phone number, email, UBC ID, the Local/Council you are affiliated with along with your current status (I.E. Journeymen, 4th term, 3rd term).
Skills Experience and Training: Summarizing crafts, qualifications, preferred types of work and all health and safety training certificates (that are valid) as well as work experience.
Work Location, Health and Drug Testing: You will be asked to indicate: what province(s) you are open to working in along with the time of year you are willing to travel, to identify what housing arrangements you would be willing to accept, indicate height, weight and overall health as well as to indicate if there are any work restrictions you may have. Also, you will be asked to indicate if you agree to an alcohol and drug test, as some provinces allow drug and alcohol testing on job sites.
Information is true, accurate and up to date: Finally, you will be asked to confirm that the information you provided is true and accurate to the best of your knowledge.
To submit the application, click on the submit/accept button to submit your application for review/approval. Once you submit your application, the application is forwarded to your Local for approval.
In order to approve your application, the following criteria must be met:
-Must be on your Local’s out of work list
-Dues paid to date
-In good standing
After 90 days, each member who has registered with the system will be asked to re-confirm their interest in working in other provinces. This information is reconfirmed through the registered member receiving an email to the email address that is affiliated with their members account.
